Our first roguelike!

Hi there,

we (Jana and Friedrich) are the Rat King, and we never ever did a roguelike. I can’t say we play them much, either. This will be interesting, at least for us. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Our weapon of choice will be Unity, so it’s gonna be 3D, and we are thinking about making a roguelike which resembles (tile-based) board games, like “Carcassonne”. Of course, “Hero Quest” might be a big influence, too.

We want to try to implement some plot, but it might get pretty clichรฉ-ridden – you will be a dwarf who discovers that unspeakable horrors found their way through the mountains in which your people and other creatures live.

  1. We’re also excited, and eager to see if we are able to do this. We created a short timetable for that week … it seems pretty much impossible, even with a fully fledged game engine like Unity. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Just a suggestion—feel free to discount it—: if you think you’re going to find it really hard to make the game within a week, you could focus on implementing just part of it (maybe a single encounter or a comparatively minor sub-plot) to make a playable game and then expand on it later.

  3. Thanks, Thomas! We did some games in short timeframes before, but not a “full” RPG. ๐Ÿ™‚
    We try to prioritize all elements we plan to implement, so the important things are playable first. The problem is to plan some tasks as “low-priority” as I found them to be all important, hehe.
