  1. Lol, I saw the screenshot with the 2 party slots marked “unpaid” and my first reaction was “I am not going to pay to unlock characters on an ascii adventure game.” …but then I got it. πŸ˜›

  2. Lol at the comment above!

I’ve tried this game out it’s really quite fun and well done. I particularly like the character portraits and the way your 4 man party moves about. It seems it can be very challenging with fast game overs sometimes.

I was a bit disappointed at the start because of the browser only play but I managed to snag the flash to seal it away for ever in my rogue vault so I’m happy now.

  3. @NeedsFoodBadly I should put a donation button on my site for anyone who feels differently! πŸ˜‰

@graspee If you grab the SWF from the source you can save it locally and play it with the Flash player. This works for most games, but Flash’s local security context is more strict than when played in a browser, so certain features like SharedObjects might give you trouble (thinking of saving games in my other larger [but severly in need of maintenance] roguelike, Dance of Death).

The salary clock is certainly harsh, but it can be mitigated by descending as quickly as possibly. As soon as you see stairs, run for them! Better loot and more monsters the deeper you go.

    Thanks for the support!

  4. This is one of my favourites this year. Unfortunately there seems to be a bug with descending sometimes. Once I descended and all that appeared on the new level was either a floor space or a wall and no me. Eventually by moving I managed to appear (in the bottom right corner of a square room, next to the wall). As I descended to level 14 though, the screen was just blank.

This is a really fantastic game that I’m sure people will still be talking about in years to come and I hope you can fix this buggy descend!

Thanks in advance, and for all your hard work so far on this great game!

  5. I’ve reviewed the game positively on my blog: I mention some more bugs there though and there’s a screenshot (for what it’s worth) of my progress halted by descend bug.

  6. I’ve gotten a few reports of the blank screen bug, it seems to happen in levels 11-14. My guess is it’s something with the turn manager’s priority queue, which I’ve had trouble with before, the monster generator, or another process of increasing complexity per level in the dungeon generation. I will be sure to track it down in the coming days.

Thanks for playing, and glad you enjoyed it!

  7. Hey graspee, I’ve updated the game with all of the bugs you address in your review fixed, except for the poor pathfinding, which is not so much a bug as a development decision when working with limited resources. πŸ˜‰

    Thanks again for your support.
